On 9th August 1965, Singapore became an independent country. Since then, 9th August commemorates our independence and is celebrated as our Nation’s birthday!
As we turn 55 this year, let’s take a look at What Singapore Thinks about our homeland!
Our National Pledge, Our People
In our recent poll about National Day, we had a mini quiz on how well Singaporeans knew the National Pledge by heart – and only 65% got it all right!
Even though we may not be that well-versed in reciting the pledge correctly…
A little more than 50% of Singaporeans think that we’re somewhat upholding the values that are articulated in our National Pledge, while 1 in 5 Singaporeans feel that we are hardly doing so.
When asked, achieving happiness and harmony among us resonates as the most important factor with Singaporeans!
Perhaps how we can be a step closer to achieving the ideals of our pledge is to extend compassion to those around us – a little kindness goes a long way (especially during such trying times).
So, what achievements are Singaporeans proud of?
Looks like living in a safe and stable environment is the #1 accomplishment that we are very proud of! Singapore may be the smallest country in Southeast Asia, but it has emerged as one of the best places to live in for its safe and stable factors.
Now, 2020 has been a year like no other for Singapore and everyone else.
Let’s continue to play our part in ensuring a safe environment for all by remembering to mask up when we head out and practice good hygiene!
